Counselling is a talking therapy that is focussed on supporting you to identify challenges or obstacles to your wellbeing and pathways to working through them. My role is to provide you with a safe space where you can feel truly comfortable sharing your innermost worries so that we may begin to work through them together. The things that we discuss in therapy are strictly private and confidential and do not go beyond the counselling space. This is your space, your time, your journey and your gift of support to yourself.
During counselling, you may also be provided with tools and special techniques that you may wish to try to help you unlock answers to questions and to begin to restore your body, mind and spirit to a state of wholeness. As each person is unique, the tools and techniques shared will also be different from client to client. You will leave with your own collection of strategies that have been especially crafted and selected just for you. In addition to my PhD in Psychology and 20 years of experience working as a Psychologist previously, I also draw upon other supports as needed. These may include shamanic healing, oracle or tarot and energy work and if any of those may be helpful for you on your journey, we will discuss them and you will be asked for permission before we use them together.
Some people wonder how long they might participate in therapy for and there's no real answer to that because everyone's journey is very different. Some people find resolution and peace more quickly than others. Some people find that the growth they experience as a result of therapy, inspires them to look more deeply at other areas of their life and so these people may choose to stay on their journey of healing and discovery. It is important to understand that counselling is a process and not a quick fix.
